Skincare for Cape Town’s Climate

Cape Town’s coastal climate is gentler than the highveld in some ways and harsher in others. Higher humidity means less dehydration, but wind and salt strip natural oils. The Cape’s Mediterranean sun is intense year-round. Here’s how to adjust your routine.

What Cape Town does to skin

  • Cape Doctor wind — strips moisture and irritates barrier
  • Salt air — abrasive on skin, dries lips and cheeks
  • Year-round UV — winters in CT still see UV indices of 6+
  • Higher humidity than Joburg — but condensation in summer can clog pores

How to adapt your routine

  • Lighter day moisturiser. The standard Day Cream works year-round; Day Cream (Dry Skin) for winter only.
  • Barrier support. Wind damages the skin barrier; Soothing Hydrating Cream repairs it.
  • SPF 50 every day. CT residents often think their UV is gentler — it isn’t.
  • Niacinamide for hyperpigmentation. Sun + sea = freckles and uneven tone. Niacinamide-rich Hydrating Mist helps.
  • Lip protection. Salt air dries lips fast; Retinol Eye & Lip Serum at night helps.
